Plant Room Floor Coating

Project overview

Floor coating works to a plant room at an energy facility in Lincolnshire. The existing floor had been worn down over years of harsh cleaning regimes, pallet truck traffic and general degradation, and the client needed a hard-wearing, anti-slip system that would be straightforward to clean and keep the room serviceable for years to come.

The challenge

Repeated use of aggressive cleaning chemicals, combined with constant pallet truck movements, had broken down the previous finish, leaving a surface that was difficult to clean, uneven in appearance and no longer providing reliable slip resistance in a room where operatives work around plant and services.

Our approach

Tikkurila's Temafloor system was applied in coats to build a seamless, chemically resistant floor with an anti-slip finish, giving safe footing in a working plant room. Application was sequenced across the room so access to services was maintained and each coat could cure properly before the next was laid.

Preparation and delivery

The floor was sanded and mechanically ground back to a sound, keyed substrate, removing failed coating and laitance, before a thorough clean to leave a dust-free surface. Edges, upstands and areas around fixed plant were cut in by hand to make sure the system carried through consistently.

Tikkurila Temafloor was chosen for its resistance to cleaning chemicals, abrasion resistance under foot traffic and seamless finish - a combination that keeps the floor easy to wash down while standing up to the conditions that broke down the previous surface.
