An Industrial Maintenance Contractor, Not a General Builder

J&L Maintenance is run by three directors and based near Eye in Suffolk.

We started in 2021 after the company we were working for went under. Rather than go and do the same jobs for somebody else, we could see there was a gap in East Anglia for coatings and industrial maintenance done by people who actually understood the sites they were working on.

Luke Williams has been in coatings since leaving school and came up through the trade on the tools. Richard Noble has thirty-five years in industrial coatings and maintenance, supervising and running jobs on site, and pricing works. Jesse Caldwell trained as a quantity surveyor straight from school and had run large projects commercially before we started.

That last bit matters more than it sounds. Most contractors our size price by feel and then chase the difference back through variations. We price properly, so the number on the quote is the number, and you are not renegotiating three weeks into the job.

Our first real work was local, at Smurfit Westrock in Diss. That helped us to get to where we are now. We now work for the NHS, Peel Ports, ABP Ports, several stadia, and a number of large manufacturers.

There are eleven of us now across the business. A director sees every job, so if something goes wrong on site you are speaking to one of us that day.
