Exterior Walkway Demarcation

Project overview

External walkway demarcation across a busy operational yard in Eye, Suffolk, renewing weathered pedestrian routes and introducing a new walkway around the weighbridge where none previously existed. The works were programmed into the last available weekend before the site moved to continuous 24/7 working.

The challenge

The existing demarcation had weathered to the point that pedestrian routes were difficult to read, which is a clear safety risk on a yard shared with lorries and cars. With the site about to run around the clock, there was no future window for the work - everything had to be prepared, applied and cured within the Saturday and Sunday.

Site constraints

• Fixed weekend window before the site moved to 24/7 operation
• Live yard with lorry and car movements around the working areas
• External surfaces requiring cleaning and drying before application
• Cure times to be achieved before traffic returned on the Monday

Our approach

Works were phased across the two days to suit vehicle movements and drying times. 101:302 two-pack epoxy roadline was applied to the existing walkway routes to restore definition and colour, and a new walkway was set out and marked around the weighbridge to formalise pedestrian access to an area that had previously been unmarked.

Preparation and delivery

Surfaces were pressure washed to remove contamination, dust and grit, then allowed to dry, with worn areas of existing coating assessed for soundness. Routes were set out and masked to give crisp, consistent edges, working in sequence so that sections of the yard could be handed back progressively rather than closing the whole area at once.

System

101:302 two-pack epoxy roadline was specified for its durability under foot and vehicle traffic, strong colour retention outdoors and resistance to abrasion - giving a hard-wearing finish suited to a yard in continuous use.

Result

All demarcation was completed within the weekend and the site opened into 24/7 working with clearly defined, freshly coated pedestrian routes. The weighbridge area gained a dedicated walkway for the first time, improving segregation between pedestrians and vehicle traffic.
